Taco Bell Tostadas

Here’s a copycat version of Taco Bell Tostadas—crispy, cheesy, and loaded with seasoned beef, beans, and toppings, just like the fast-food classic.


Taco Bell–Style Tostadas

Ingredients (4 servings / 4 tostadas)

  • 4 large tostada shells (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 packet taco seasoning (or homemade: 1 tsp chili powder, ½ tsp cumin, ½ tsp paprika, ¼ tsp garlic powder, pinch salt & pepper)
  • ½ cup water
  • 1 cup refried beans
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar or Mexican blend cheese
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1 medium tomato, diced
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • Optional: sliced jalapeños, taco sauce, diced onions

Instructions

  1. Cook the beef
    • In a skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef until browned.
    • Drain excess fat, add taco seasoning and water, simmer 3–5 minutes until thickened.
  2. Prepare beans
    • Warm refried beans in a small saucepan or microwave.
  3. Assemble tostadas
    • Spread a thin layer of refried beans on each tostada shell.
    • Top with seasoned beef.
    • Sprinkle with shredded cheese and let it melt slightly.
    • Add shredded lettuce, diced tomato, and any optional toppings.
    • Finish with a dollop of sour cream.

Tips

  • Crispier shells: Bake shells at 350°F for 3–5 minutes before assembling.
  • Cheese melt: Place assembled tostadas under a broiler for 1–2 minutes to melt the cheese perfectly.
  • Make-ahead: Prepare toppings and seasoned beef ahead; assemble just before serving to keep shells crunchy.

Variations

  • Chicken or turkey: Swap beef for shredded chicken or ground turkey
  • Vegetarian: Use beans and sautéed veggies instead of meat
  • Spicy: Add hot sauce or pickled jalapeños
