Slow Cooker Whole Chicken Recipe

Ooo yes — slow cooker whole chicken is one of those set-it-and-forget-it wins 🍗
Super juicy, zero babysitting, and the leftovers are gold.

Slow Cooker Whole Chicken (Tender + Flavorful)

Ingredients

  • 1 whole chicken (3–4 lb), giblets removed
  • 1 tbsp olive oil or melted butter
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp dried thyme or Italian seasoning
  • 1 lemon (optional), halved
  • 1 small onion (optional), quartered

Instructions

  1. Prep the chicken
    Pat the chicken completely dry (this helps flavor stick).
  2. Season
    Rub olive oil all over the chicken.
    Mix salt, pepper, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and herbs.
    Rub seasoning generously over the entire chicken.
  3. Stuff (optional but recommended)
    Place lemon halves and onion inside the cavity.
  4. Set up the slow cooker
    Lightly oil the slow cooker.
    Place the chicken breast-side up.
  5. Cook
    • Low: 6–7 hours
    • High: 3–4 hours
      Chicken is done when internal temp reaches 165°F (74°C).
  6. Optional crispy skin finish
    Transfer chicken to a baking sheet and broil for 3–5 minutes until skin crisps.
  7. Rest & serve
    Let rest 10 minutes before carving.

Tips for Best Results

  • No need to add liquid — the chicken releases its own juices.
  • For extra flavor, place sliced carrots, potatoes, or celery under the chicken.
  • Save the juices for soup or gravy (liquid gold 🥣).

Flavor Variations

  • Garlic herb: Add fresh rosemary + thyme
  • Lemon pepper: Use lemon pepper seasoning
  • BBQ: Rub with BBQ seasoning and brush sauce before broiling
  • Mexican-style: Cumin, chili powder, paprika, garlic
