Put an empty plastic bottle in the washing machine — I have to admit, the person who came up with this trick must have a “genius-level” IQ.

Posted on March 31, 2026 by Admin

It sounds like one of those “why didn’t I think of that?” hacks—but this one is a bit overhyped.

🧴 What the plastic bottle trick claims to do

People say tossing an empty plastic bottle into the washing machine will:

  • Help agitate clothes better
  • Knock dirt loose
  • Prevent clothes from clumping together

🤔 Does it actually work?

Not really—modern washing machines are already designed to optimize agitation and water flow. A loose plastic bottle doesn’t improve cleaning in any meaningful, consistent way.

⚠️ Downsides (these matter more)

  • Noise & damage risk: The bottle bangs around loudly and can stress the drum over time
  • Gets stuck: It can wedge between clothes or parts of the drum
  • No real benefit: You’re adding risk without improving results

✅ What actually works better

If your goal is better washing performance:

  • Use proper load size (don’t overload)
  • Add laundry balls or dryer balls (they’re made for this purpose)
  • Choose the right cycle and detergent amount

💡 Bottom line

It’s more of a viral “hack” than a genuinely smart one. Whoever came up with it wasn’t a genius—they just found something unusual that looks clever.

If you want, I can show you a few laundry tricks that really do make a noticeable difference.
