Ingredients

For the Meatloaf Layer

  • 2 tbsp ketchup or tomato sauce
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp salt

  • ½ tsp paprika (optional)

For the Mac and Cheese Layer

  • 2 cups elbow macaroni, cooked al dente
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 ½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • ½ tsp mustard powder (optional)
  • Salt & pepper to taste

For the Topping

  • ½ cup shredded cheddar or mozzarella
  • 2 tbsp breadcrumbs (optional, for crunch)

Instructions

1. Preheat Oven

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Grease a 9×13-inch casserole dish.

2. Make the Meatloaf Layer

  1. In a bowl, combine ground beef, onion, garlic, egg, breadcrumbs, milk, ketchup, Worcestershire, and seasonings.
  2. Press mixture evenly into the bottom of the casserole dish.

3. Make the Mac and Cheese Layer

  1. Cook macaroni according to package instructions; drain.
  2. In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat.
  3. Whisk in flour and cook 1 minute.
  4. Slowly whisk in milk, cooking until thickened.
  5. Stir in cheese until melted and smooth.
  6. Season with salt, pepper, and mustard powder.
  7. Mix cheese sauce with cooked macaroni.

4. Assemble the Casserole

  1. Spoon mac and cheese over the meatloaf layer evenly.
  2. Sprinkle top with shredded cheese and breadcrumbs (if using).

5. Bake

  • Bake uncovered 25–30 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  • Optional: broil 1–2 minutes for extra crisp topping.

6. Serve

  • Let rest 5 minutes before slicing.
  • Serve with a simple side salad or roasted vegetables.
