Ingredients
- 2½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 1 tbsp sugar (optional, but recommended)
- 1 tsp salt
- 1¾ cups buttermilk (or milk + 1 tbsp vinegar)
- 1½ cups shredded cheese (cheddar works great)
- 1–1½ cups diced ham
- ½ cup (1 stick) butter, melted
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 450°F (230°C).
- Mix dry ingredients: Flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.
- Add wet ingredients: Stir in buttermilk until just combined.
- Fold in cheese and ham.
- Butter the pan: Pour melted butter into an 8×8 baking dish.
- Add dough: Spoon dough evenly over the butter—do not stir.
- Bake: 25–30 minutes, until golden brown on top.
- Cool slightly, then slice and serve.
