Here’s a flavorful Green Chile Picadillo—a classic Tex-Mex dish with ground beef, green chiles, and a savory-slightly sweet sauce 🌶️🥩


🌶️ Green Chile Picadillo

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef (or half beef, half pork)
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1–2 cans green chiles (mild or medium, diced, drained)
  • 1 medium tomato, diced (or ½ cup tomato sauce)
  • ½ teaspoon ground cumin
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional, adds warmth)
  • ½ teaspoon oregano
  • Salt & black pepper, to taste
  • ¼ cup green olives, sliced (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon raisins (optional, for a slightly sweet note)
  • 1–2 tablespoons olive oil or vegetable oil
  • ½ cup beef or chicken broth

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Sauté onions until translucent.
  2. Add garlic and cook 30 seconds until fragrant.
  3. Add ground beef, breaking it up with a spoon. Cook until browned. Drain excess fat if needed.
  4. Stir in green chiles, tomato, cumin, cinnamon, oregano, salt, and pepper.
  5. Add broth, reduce heat to low, and simmer 10–15 minutes until flavors meld.
  6. Stir in olives and raisins if using; cook another 2–3 minutes.
  7. Taste and adjust seasoning.

  • Serve over white rice or Spanish rice
  • Use as a taco or enchilada filling
  • Top with shredded cheese, sour cream, or fresh cilantro
  • Serve with warm tortillas or crusty bread

🔥 Tips & Variations

  • For spicier picadillo, add chopped jalapeños or a pinch of cayenne
  • Can substitute ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version
  • For a smoother sauce, puree the tomatoes before adding
