Drop biscuits

Drop biscuits 🧈🥐 are quick, soft biscuits you make by dropping spoonfuls of dough onto a baking sheet—no rolling or cutting needed.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ cup cold butter (cubed)
  • 1 cup milk or buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 220°C (425°F).
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.
  3. Add the cold butter and rub it into the flour with your fingers (or use a pastry cutter) until it looks like coarse crumbs.
  4. Pour in the milk or buttermilk and stir just until a soft dough forms. Don’t overmix.
  5. Drop spoonfuls of dough onto a baking sheet (leave space between them).
  6. Bake 12–15 minutes until the tops are golden brown.

Optional Add-ins

  • Cheddar cheese 🧀 for cheesy biscuits
  • Garlic powder + parsley 🌿 for garlic biscuits
  • Honey or a little extra sugar 🍯 for slightly sweet biscuits

Serving Ideas

  • With butter and honey
  • With gravy (classic Southern style)
  • Alongside soups or stews
