Here’s an authentic Mexican Salsa Fresca (Pico de Gallo)—fresh, simple, and perfectly balanced, just like you’d find in Mexico.


🌶️🍅 Salsa Fresca (Pico de Gallo)

Ingredients

  • 4 Roma tomatoes, finely diced
  • ¼ cup white onion, finely chopped
  • 1–2 serrano peppers (or jalapeño), finely minced
  • ¼ cup fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 1½–2 tbsp fresh lime juice
  • ½ tsp salt (or to taste)

Instructions

  1. Prep ingredients
    • Dice tomatoes, onion, peppers, and cilantro very finely for best texture.
  2. Combine
    • Add everything to a bowl.
    • Toss gently until well mixed.
  3. Rest
    • Let sit 10–15 minutes so flavors meld.
  4. Taste & adjust
    • Add more salt or lime juice if needed.

Authentic Tips 🇲🇽

  • Use Roma tomatoes (less watery).
  • White onion is traditional.
  • Serranos give authentic heat; jalapeños are milder.
  • No garlic, no vinegar—keep it fresh and simple.

Variations (Still Traditional)

  • Con cebolla morada: Swap white onion for red onion.
  • Sin chile: Omit peppers for mild.
  • Extra lime: Common in coastal regions.
