Ingredients

  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1 egg, beaten
  • ½ cup milk (or adjust as needed)
  • Oil for frying (vegetable or canola)

Instructions

  1. Prep onions
    Slice onions thinly. You can soak them in cold water 10 minutes to reduce sharpness if you want. Drain well.
  2. Make batter
    In a bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt, pepper, and sugar.
    Stir in egg and milk until smooth. Batter should be thick enough to coat onions.
  3. Coat onions
    Toss onion slices into the batter until evenly coated.
  4. Fry fritters
    • Heat about ½ inch of oil in a skillet over medium heat
    • Drop spoonfuls of onion batter into hot oil
