BAKED SWEET AND SOUR CHICKEN

Here’s a crispy, sticky, oven-baked Sweet & Sour Chicken—no deep frying, still restaurant vibes.


🍗 Baked Sweet & Sour Chicken

Ingredients (4 servings)

Chicken

  • 700 g (1½ lb) chicken breast or thighs, bite-size
  • Salt & pepper
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • ½ cup cornstarch
  • ½ cup flour
  • Cooking spray or oil

Sweet & Sour Sauce

  • ½ cup ketchup
  • ⅓ cup sugar
  • ¼ cup rice vinegar (or white vinegar)
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • ½ cup pineapple juice (or water)
  • Optional: pineapple chunks, bell peppers, onion

Instructions

1️⃣ Heat oven

  • Preheat to 220°C / 425°F
  • Line a baking tray with parchment.

2️⃣ Coat the chicken

  • Season chicken.
  • Dip in egg → cornstarch → flour.
  • Place on tray, spray or drizzle lightly with oil.

3️⃣ Bake till crispy

  • Bake 15 minutes, flip.
  • Bake another 10 minutes until golden.

4️⃣ Make the sauce

  • Whisk all sauce ingredients in a bowl.

5️⃣ Combine & bake again

  • Reduce oven to 200°C / 400°F.
  • Pour sauce over chicken.
  • Add pineapple/veggies if using.
  • Bake 10–15 minutes, stirring once, until sticky and glossy.

🔥 Pro Tips

  • Thighs = juicier
  • Cornstarch is key for crispiness
  • Broil 1–2 min at end for extra caramelization

🔄 Variations

  • Air fryer: cook chicken at 200°C for 12–14 min, sauce + bake 5 min
  • Spicy: add chili flakes or sriracha
  • Healthier: skip flour, double cornstarch

Serve over steamed rice or noodles 🍚
