Baked potato

Here’s a simple guide to making the perfect baked potato—crispy skin, fluffy inside, and ready for all your favorite toppings.


🥔 Classic Baked Potato

Ingredients

  • 4 medium russet potatoes

  • 1–2 tbsp olive oil or melted butter

  • Salt (coarse or kosher works best)

  • Optional toppings: butter, sour cream, shredded cheese, bacon bits, chives, or anything you like


Instructions

1. Prep the potatoes

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).

  2. Scrub the potatoes clean and pat dry.

  3. Prick each potato several times with a fork (helps steam escape).

  4. Rub potatoes with olive oil and sprinkle with salt.


2. Bake

  1. Place potatoes directly on the oven rack or on a baking sheet.

  2. Bake 45–60 minutes, depending on size, until the skin is crispy and a fork slides easily into the center.


3. Serve

  • Cut a slit in the top, fluff the insides with a fork, and add toppings of your choice.


Tips for Perfection

  • For extra crispy skin, brush with more oil halfway through baking.

  • You can microwave the potato for 5–7 minutes first to reduce oven time, then finish in the oven for crispiness.

  • Russets are ideal—they’re starchy and fluffy inside.
