Here’s a classic Apple Slab Pie — perfect for feeding a crowd, easy to slice, and full of tender apples wrapped in a flaky crust. This is basically a “party-sized” apple pie!


🍏 Apple Slab Pie

Ingredients

For the Crust

  • 2 refrigerated pie crusts (or homemade, doubled)
    You can also use puff pastry for a flakier version.

For the Apple Filling

  • 8 cups apples, peeled & sliced (Granny Smith + Honeycrisp combo is great)
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 3 tbsp all-purpose flour (or 2 tbsp cornstarch)
  • 1 ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp nutmeg
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

To Finish

  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • Coarse sugar (optional)

🔪 Instructions

1. Preheat

Preheat oven to 400°F (205°C).
Line a 10×15-inch jelly roll pan (or baking sheet with a rim) with parchment.

2. Prepare the Crust

  • Roll the first pie crust to fit the bottom and sides of the pan.
  • Place it in the pan, gently pressing it into the corners.

3. Make the Apple Filling

In a large bowl, toss together:

  • Sliced apples
  • Sugars
  • Flour (or cornstarch)
  • Cinnamon
  • Nutmeg
  • Salt
  • Lemon juice
  • Vanilla

Let sit for 5 minutes to get juicy.

4. Assemble

  • Spread the apple mixture evenly over the bottom crust.
  • Roll the second crust to fit the top and lay it over the apples.
  • Crimp edges together.
  • Cut several slits in the top to vent.
  • Brush with egg wash and sprinkle with coarse sugar.

5. Bake

Bake 35–40 minutes until the crust is golden brown and apples are tender.
If edges brown too quickly, cover with foil.

6. Cool & Serve

Cool at least 20–30 minutes before slicing.
Serve warm with ice cream, caramel drizzle, or whipped cream.


⭐ Tips & Variations

  • Caramel Apple Slab Pie: Add ½ cup caramel sauce over the apples before topping with crust.
  • Streusel Top Instead of Crust: Use a crumble made of butter, brown sugar, flour, and oats.
  • Make Ahead: Assemble the entire pie, cover, and refrigerate up to 24 hours before baking.
  • Apple Variety: Mixing tart + sweet apples gives the best flavor.
