It’s literally just dried peppers—but people still act like it’s some mysterious chemical 😭
Paprika is made from the dried and ground pods of Capsicum annuum plants, which include things like:
- red bell peppers
- sweet peppers
- mild chili peppers
The peppers are harvested, dried (sometimes smoked), and then ground into that red powder you see in the spice jar. (Encyclopedia Britannica)
What confuses people is that “pepper” doesn’t always mean spicy here. Paprika can be:
- sweet (no heat, mostly bell-pepper-like flavor)
- hot (spicier chili varieties)
- smoked (dried over wood for that barbecue-like taste)
So yeah—no secret ingredient, no bugs, no “chemical dye.” Just peppers in powder form. 🌶️
