I found this in my girlfriend’s bathroom. We’ve been looking at it for an hour now and still can’t figure out what it is.

That looks bizarre at first glance, but it’s actually pretty mundane.

It’s most likely a clump of hair mixed with soap residue, skin cells, and grime that’s been sitting in a damp spot (like near a shower edge or drain) and started growing that spiky, branching structure. The “spikes” are usually formed by soap scum and mineral deposits crystallizing along the hair strands as water repeatedly dries there.

Basically, it’s a kind of bathroom gunk formation—not a living organism, not a fungus in the typical sense, and definitely not anything that “grew” on its own like a creature. The shape just looks wild because of how the residue builds up over time.

If you poke it, it’ll probably feel rubbery or brittle. Best move: gloves, disinfectant, toss it, and maybe give that area a deeper clean 👍
