Street Tacos de Carne Asada

Here’s a classic recipe for Street Tacos de Carne Asada, perfect for that authentic, grilled flavor with fresh toppings:


Ingredients

For the carne asada:

  • 1 lb (450 g) flank or skirt steak

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

  • Juice of 1 lime

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro

  • 1 teaspoon chili powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin

  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the tacos:

  • Small corn tortillas (about 8–10)

  • 1/2 cup chopped onion

  • 1/2 cup chopped fresh cilantro

  • Lime wedges

  • Optional: sliced radishes, salsa, or avocado


Instructions

1. Marinate the steak:

  1. In a bowl, mix olive oil, lime juice, garlic, cilantro, chili powder, cumin, salt, and pepper.

  2. Place steak in a shallow dish or resealable bag and pour marinade over it.

  3. Marinate for at least 30 minutes (or up to 2 hours) in the refrigerator.

2. Cook the steak:

  1. Preheat a grill, grill pan, or cast-iron skillet over high heat.

  2. Cook steak 4–6 minutes per side for medium-rare, depending on thickness.

  3. Let the steak rest 5 minutes, then slice thinly against the grain.

3. Warm the tortillas:

  • Heat tortillas on a dry skillet or directly over a low flame until soft and slightly charred. Keep warm.

4. Assemble tacos:

  1. Place sliced steak on each tortilla.

  2. Top with chopped onion and cilantro.

  3. Squeeze fresh lime over the top.

  4. Add optional toppings like salsa, radish slices, or avocado if desired.


Tips for Authentic Street Tacos:

  • Corn tortillas are preferred over flour for a true street taco experience.

  • Grill over high heat for a nice char—it adds flavor.

  • Serve immediately while the tortillas are warm.
