Pack brown sugar over raw pork chops

Posted on March 18, 2026 by Admin

Packing brown sugar over raw pork chops is a simple cooking trick that creates a sweet, caramelized crust when the meat cooks. It’s often used when baking or grilling Pork Chops. 🍖

Why people do it

1. Caramelized flavor
When heated, the molasses in Brown Sugar melts and caramelizes, forming a sweet glaze on the pork.

2. Balances savory taste
Pork has a naturally mild flavor, and the sweetness pairs well with seasonings like garlic, pepper, or mustard.

3. Keeps the meat moist
The sugar coating can help create a slight barrier that helps keep juices inside during cooking.

Simple method

Ingredients

  • 4 Pork Chops
  • ½ cup packed Brown Sugar
  • Salt and black pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder (optional)
  • 1 tbsp Butter

Steps

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Place the pork chops in a baking dish.
  3. Season lightly with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
  4. Pack brown sugar on top of each chop to form a thick layer.
  5. Add small pieces of butter on top.
  6. Bake 30–40 minutes until the pork is cooked and the sugar forms a glaze.

Tip

For extra flavor, some people add a little mustard or soy sauce under the sugar layer before baking.
