🌯 Beef and Cheese Chimichangas are crispy, deep-fried burritos filled with seasoned beef and melted cheese—popular in Tex-Mex cuisine. Here’s an easy homemade version.
Ingredients
- 1 lb Ground Beef
- 1 cup shredded Cheddar Cheese (or Mexican blend)
- 1 small chopped Onion
- 1 tsp chili powder
- ½ tsp cumin
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 large Flour Tortilla
- Oil for frying (such as Vegetable Oil)
Instructions
1️⃣ Cook the filling
In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and onion until the beef is browned. Drain excess fat.
Add chili powder, cumin, salt, and pepper. Stir well.
2️⃣ Add cheese
Remove from heat and mix in shredded cheddar cheese until slightly melted.
3️⃣ Fill the tortillas
Place a portion of the beef mixture in the center of each tortilla.
Fold the sides inward and roll tightly like a burrito.
4️⃣ Fry the chimichangas
Heat vegetable oil in a pan. Fry each chimichanga seam-side down until golden brown and crispy on all sides (about 2–3 minutes per side).
5️⃣ Serve
Drain on paper towels and serve hot.
Optional Toppings
- Fresh Salsa
- Guacamole
- Sour Cream
- Shredded Lettuce
- Diced Tomato
💡 Tip:
For a lighter version, brush the chimichangas with oil and bake at 200°C (400°F) for 20–25 minutes until crispy.
