Cheesy beef puff pastry pockets recipe

Here’s a delicious and easy Cheesy Beef Puff Pastry Pockets recipe—perfect as a snack, appetizer, or quick dinner. 🥐🧀🥩


Ingredients (Makes 6–8 pockets)

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 250–300 g ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or a mix)
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste or ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)

Instructions

1. Cook the beef filling

  • Heat oil in a pan over medium heat.
  • Add onion and cook until soft (2–3 minutes).
  • Add garlic and cook for about 30 seconds.
  • Add ground beef and cook until browned.
  • Stir in tomato paste, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  • Cook for another 2–3 minutes, then remove from heat and let cool slightly.

2. Prepare the pastry

  • Preheat oven to 200°C (400°F).
  • Roll out the puff pastry and cut into 6–8 squares.

3. Fill the pockets

  • Place a spoonful of the beef mixture in the center of each square.
  • Sprinkle shredded cheese on top of the beef.

4. Seal

  • Fold pastry over to form a triangle or rectangle.
  • Press edges with a fork to seal.

5. Egg wash

  • Brush the tops with beaten egg for a golden crust.

6. Bake

  • Place on a lined baking tray and bake for 15–20 minutes, until golden brown and puffed.

Optional Add-ins

You can add:

  • diced bell peppers
  • mushrooms
  • a little chili flakes for heat 🌶️
  • cream cheese for extra creaminess

Serving Ideas

Serve with:

  • ketchup
  • garlic sauce
  • spicy mayo
  • or a yogurt dip
