🍞 Classic French Toast

🛒 Ingredients (Serves 4)

  • 8 slices thick bread (brioche, challah, or Texas toast work best)
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk (whole milk preferred)
  • 1 tbsp sugar (optional)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1–2 tbsp butter (for cooking)

1️⃣ Make the Custard

In a shallow bowl, whisk together:

  • Eggs
  • Milk
  • Sugar
  • Vanilla
  • Cinnamon
  • Salt

2️⃣ Dip the Bread

  • Dip each slice into the egg mixture.
  • Let soak about 10–15 seconds per side (longer for thicker bread).
  • Don’t oversoak or it may fall apart.

3️⃣ Cook

  • Heat butter in a skillet over medium heat.
  • Cook slices 2–4 minutes per side until golden brown.
  • Adjust heat if browning too fast.

4️⃣ Serve

Top with:

  • Maple syrup
  • Powdered sugar
  • Fresh berries
  • Whipped cream
  • Nut butter
