Cheddar Cheese Quick Bread

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 Tbsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp sugar (optional, just balances)
  • 1½ cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup milk
  • ¼ cup vegetable oil or melted butter
  • 1 large egg

Instructions

  1. Heat oven to 350°F (175°C).
    Grease a loaf pan or line with parchment.
  2. In a bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, salt, pepper, and sugar.
  3. Stir in cheddar cheese.
  4. In another bowl, whisk milk, oil (or butter), and egg.
  5. Combine wet and dry ingredients just until mixed—don’t over-stir.
  6. Pour batter into loaf pan.
  7. Bake 45–50 minutes, until golden and a toothpick comes out clean.
  8. Cool 10 minutes, then slice.

Optional Upgrades

  • 🌶️ Jalapeño cheddar: add ¼ cup diced jalapeños
  • 🧄 Garlic cheddar: ½ tsp garlic powder
  • 🌿 Herb bread: chives, thyme, or rosemary
  • 🥓 Bacon cheddar: fold in ½ cup cooked bacon

Serving Ideas

  • Warm with butter
  • With soup or chili
  • Toasted for breakfast with eggs
