Here’s a simple, bakery-style version you can whip up fast.


Ham & Cheese Puff Pastry

Ingredients (makes 6–8 pastries)

  • 1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed
  • 4–6 slices ham (Black Forest, honey, or deli-style)
  • 1–1½ cups shredded cheese
    • Swiss, Gruyère, cheddar, or mozzarella work great
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard (optional, but excellent)
  • 1 egg + 1 tablespoon water (egg wash)
  • Black pepper (optional)

Instructions

1. Prep

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (205°C).
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  3. Unfold puff pastry on a lightly floured surface and cut into squares or rectangles.

2. Assemble

  1. Lightly spread Dijon mustard on each piece (optional).
  2. Layer ham on one half of each pastry.
  3. Sprinkle cheese evenly over ham.
  4. Add a pinch of black pepper if you like.

3. Fold & seal

  • Fold pastry over filling (triangle or rectangle style).
  • Press edges with a fork to seal.

4. Egg wash

  • Brush tops with egg wash for that golden, glossy finish.

5. Bake

  • Bake 18–22 minutes, until puffed and deep golden brown.
  • Let cool 5 minutes before serving (cheese will be HOT).

  • Croissant-style rolls: Roll ham & cheese inside a long strip of pastry.
  • Breakfast version: Add scrambled eggs inside.
  • Everything bagel twist: Sprinkle everything seasoning on top before baking.
  • Fancy touch: Add a little béchamel or cream cheese inside.

💡 Pro Tips

  • Keep puff pastry cold—if it gets warm, pop it in the fridge for 10 minutes.
  • Don’t overfill or it’ll leak (still tasty, just messy).
  • Best served warm but reheats well in an oven or air fryer.
