Old Time Oven Peach Cobbler

Posted on January 5, 2026 by Admin

Ah, a classic! Here’s a traditional Old Time Oven Peach Cobbler recipe that’s simple, rustic, and delicious. This one uses fresh or canned peaches and bakes up golden and bubbly.

Ingredients

For the filling:

  • 4 cups peeled and sliced fresh peaches (or 2 cans, drained, ~29 oz each)
  • 1 cup sugar (adjust depending on peach sweetness)
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon (optional)
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg (optional)
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp cornstarch (optional, for thicker syrup)

For the topping (batter-style, old-fashioned):

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (melted)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: 350°F (175°C).
  2. Prepare Peaches:
    • If using fresh peaches, peel and slice them.
    • Mix peaches with sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and cornstarch (if using). Set aside.
  3. Prepare Topping:
    • In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
    • Stir in milk until smooth.
    • Melt butter and pour it into a 9×13-inch baking dish. Pour the batter over the butter without stirring—it will float up as it bakes.
  4. Assemble Cobbler:
    • Spoon the peach mixture over the batter. Do not stir.
  5. Bake:
    • Bake for 40–50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
  6. Serve:
    • Best warm, optionally with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

💡 Tips:

  • If peaches are very sweet, reduce sugar slightly.
  • For extra flavor, add a splash of vanilla extract to the batter.
  • A cast-iron skillet works wonderfully if you want a rustic look.

If you want, I can also give you a shortcut version for canned peaches that’s just as tasty and quicker to make—perfect if you want a “grandma-style” cobbler fast.

Do you want me to give that version too?
