Croquette

Here’s a classic Croquette recipe 🥔🥩—crispy on the outside, soft and creamy on the inside. Croquettes can be made with potatoes, meat, or vegetables. I’ll give you a potato and minced meat version, which is traditional and versatile.


Potato & Meat Croquettes

Ingredients (Makes about 12–14 croquettes)

Filling

  • 2 cups mashed potatoes (cooled)
  • 1 cup cooked minced meat (beef, chicken, or ham)
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • ½ teaspoon paprika (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon butter (optional, for richness)

Coating

  • 1–2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • Oil, for frying

Instructions

  1. Prepare filling
    • In a skillet, sauté onion and garlic until soft.
    • Add cooked minced meat and season with salt, pepper, and paprika.
    • Mix cooked meat with mashed potatoes and butter if using.
    • Let mixture cool slightly for easier handling.
  2. Shape croquettes
    • Take about 2 tablespoons of mixture and form into small cylinders or ovals.
  3. Coat croquettes
    • Dip each croquette in beaten egg, then roll in breadcrumbs until evenly coated.
  4. Fry croquettes
    • Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat.
    • Fry croquettes 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown.
    • Drain on paper towels.
  5. Serve
    • Serve hot as a snack, appetizer, or side dish.
    • Optional: Serve with ketchup, aioli, or a creamy dipping sauce.

Tips & Variations

  • 🧀 Add a small cube of cheese in the center for a gooey surprise
  • 🌿 Mix in chopped parsley, dill, or chives
  • 🍠 Swap mashed potatoes for mashed sweet potatoes
  • 🍴 For baking: brush with oil and bake at 400°F (200°C) for 20 minutes, flipping halfway
